Sweet Pongal / Sihi Pongal / Chakkara Pongal / Sakkarai Pongal :
Sweet pongal or Sihi pongal is a South Indian traditional recipe prepared during Sankranti/Pongal, Navaratri festivals. It can be prepared using sugar or jaggery. In this recipe i am using jaggery. Its a very easy dish using very less ingredients. Let us learn how to make easy and tasty Sweet Pongal/ Sihi pongal with step by step pictures.
Ingredients:
Rice : 1/2 Cup
Moong Dal : 1/4 Cup
Jaggery : 1 Cup
Dry coconut : 3 Table spoon
Cardamom Seeds : 1 No.
Water: 2 1/2 Cup
Water: 2 1/2 Cup
Ghee : 1/2 Cup
Cashew Nuts : 3 to 4
Raisins : 3 to 4
Method :
- Dry roast the moon dal till it gets the nice aroma. no need to fry until it changes colour.
- Pressure cook rice and moong dal together adding 21/2 Cup of water.
- Roast the dry coconut till it becomes golden brown and you get nice aroma.
- In a pan add two spoons of ghee and add cashew nuts.
- Once cashew nut becomes golden brown, add raisins and fry until they puff up.
- Transfer the nuts into a small bowl and in the same pan add rest of the ghee and cooked moong dal and rice into the pan
- Add Jaggery and cook for few minutes until everything gets blended well. at this stage you can add roasted coconut cardamom powder and roasted nuts.
- Cook for few minutes until everything is well blended.
- Now the tasty Pongal is ready to serve
