Masala puri chaat

Masala Puri Chaat

Masala puri is a south Indian chaat which can be prepared easily at home. This is a street food too. 

Masala puri is a perfect combination of dry peas, masala gravy , crispy puris, chutney, sev and few veggies. Perfect for winter evening. In this recipe i am not using chutney. As my  family likes to have without chutney. 

Ingredients:

Pani Puris 
Dry Peas - 1/2 Cup
Sev or Mixture for garnish
Chaat Masala - 1/2 tsp
Onion  -  2 Tsp finely chopped 
Tomato - 2 Tsp finely chopped 
Coriander leaves - 2 Tsp finely chopped
Salt to taste

For masala gravy:
Dry coconut - 1 Tsp
Red chilly  -  3 Num
Green chilly - 1 Num
Mint leaves and Corriander leaves - Handful
Carrot and Potato- 1/2 Cup Boiled
Cinnamon - 1/2 inch
Cloves - 2 Num
Nutmeg - Small piece
Kapok buds - Small piece
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Ginger and Garlic - 1/2 inch
Poppy Seeds - 3/4 tsp
Pepper corn - 8 to 10 Num

Method:

1. Pressure cook the dry peas which is already soaked overnight along with potato and carrot.



2. In a mixing jar add all the ingredients mentioned in for masala gravy except carrot and potato.

3. Make a fine paste adding water. Then add carrot and potato.

4. In a pan add 1 Tsp oil and pureed masala paste. Add salt to taste.

5. Simmer and allow it to boil and thicken to the desired consistency. The gravy should not be too thick or too thin. It should be semi liquid.

To serve masala puri chaat:

1. In a serving plate take 5 to 6 pani puris and crush them.

2. Add cooked dry peas.

3. Pour 2-3 ladles of piping hot masala gravy . And sprinkle some chaat masala.
    ( At this stage drizzle sone green and sweet chutney )

4. Add finely chopped onion, tomato and coriander leaves.

5. Garnish with sev or mixture.

6. Serve hot.
