Masoor dal / Red Lentil

Masoor Dal / Red lentil

Masoor dal or Red lentil is a common recipe in India. Very easy to make and very light food goes well with hot rice or roti.

Ingredients:

Masoor dal / Red lentil - 1 Cup
Onion - 1 finely chopped
Tomato - 1/2 Medium size finely chopped
Oil - 3 Tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 Tsp
Curry leaves - 5 to 6 
Green chilly - 1 Num
Chilly powder - 1/2 Tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 Tsp
Coriander powder - 1/2 Tsp
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves - Handful

Method:

1. Soak the dal for 1 hour so that they cook fast


2. Pressure cook the dal.
3. Ina kadai add oil and cumin seeds. Fry the cumin seeds till it browns. Add curry leaves and slit green chilly.

4. Add onion and fry till it becomes golden brown.

5. Add turmeric, red chilly powder, cumin powder and coriander powder.

6. Fry it and add cooked dal, tomato and salt to taste. If required add water. Cook for 5 minute in a medium flame.

7. Add lemon juice. Serve hot masoor dal sprinkling some finely chopped coriander leaves.
