Masoor dal

Masoor dal

Masoor dal or Red lentils is a common recipe in India. very easy to cook and very light light food goes well with hot rice or roti.

 Ingredients:

Masoor dal / Red lentils - 2 cup
Oil - 2 to 3 Tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Curry leaves - 5 to 6 leaves
Green chilly - 1 Num
Onion - 1 Medium size
Tomato - 1/2 Medium size
Turmeric - 1/4 Tsp
Chilly powder - 1/2 Tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 Tsp
Coriander powder - 1/2 Tsp
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves - 2 Tsp finely chopped
Lemon juice - 1 Tsp

Method :

1 Soak the dal for 1 hour. so that they cook faster.

2. Pressure cook the dal for 2 whistles.
3. In a kadai add oil and cumin seeds.
4. Fry the cumin seeds till brown. Add curry leaves and green chilly.

5. Add onion and fry till it becomes golden brown.

6. Add red chilly powder, turmeric, cumin powder, coriander powder.

7. Fry it and add cooked dal, tomato and salt to taste. Add 1 cup of water. It should be of medium consistency


8. Cook for 5 min in a medium flame.
9. Serve hot Masoor dal / Red lentils sprinkling some finely chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice with hot rice or roti.
